NEW! February | Iris
With its graceful willowy stems and delicate striped flowers, the Iris brings with it a substantial fanfare that dates back to ancient times.
Traditionally, the Iris symbolizes eloquence, faith, wisdom, and hope as much of February carries with it the promise that spring will soon return.
In Greek, Iris means “rainbow” and the plant’s name probably reflects the fact that irises are grown in many colors, including blue and purple, white and yellow, pink and orange, brown and red, and even black.
Did you know? Van Gogh, the famous Dutch artist was so inspired by the Iris that he created two of his most notable paintings of Irises to capture the unique twisting and curving lines of the flower.
Literary Inspiration: "Iris all hues, roses, and jessamine Reared high their flourished heads between, and wrought Mosaic; underfoot the violet, Crocus, and hyacinth with rich inlay Broidered the ground, more coloured than with stone Of costliest emblem: other creature here Beast, bird, insect, or worm durst enter none; Such was their awe of man." | John Milton
